Norris Edges Out Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at each of the last five grands prix.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the title advantage from Piastri by a single point after winning in Mexico City a fortnight back, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before sprint qualifying scheduled for 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in the championship fight, sitting 36 points Norris, was classified in 17th place as his team followed a unique setup.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he lost control at Turn Four during the early running.
The Japanese lost control over the exit kerbs before sliding over the run-off area, and was blessed to get away with just a slight brush of the wall.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the final moments of the session, rotating twice through the quick descending Mergulho turn approaching the final corner on to the start-finish straight.
The veteran finished practice in 19th, just behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, over half a second off Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
