The original stars, Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are confirmed to return for the new Hunger Games film, Sunrise on the Reaping.
News has broken that beloved stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are set to appear once again in the next chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Production is currently underway.
A Significant Reunion for Fans
The duo will once again portray Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the roles they originated. It is believed their appearance will probably be featured in a brief glimpse ahead, considering the original saga concluded with their characters settled into family life.
This marks the sixth cinematic outing in the global Hunger Games franchise.
The Source Material
Sunrise on the Reaping is based upon a newly published work by author Suzanne Collins. It acts as the second film set before the original story after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Once again is Francis Lawrence, who directed the majority of the previous films in the series.
A New Era in Panem
The film's events are set in the years leading up to the first Hunger Games, spotlighting a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, destined to become Katniss's mentor, is featured as a tribute in the notorious 50th Hunger Games.
The cast also includes several notable actors in key parts:
- Jesse Plemons is playing Plutarch Heavensbee.
- Ralph Fiennes will appear as a younger version of the calculating President Snow.
What the Stars Are Doing Now & The Film's Schedule
Meanwhile, Jennifer Lawrence stars in the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson is part of the hit horror film Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
Regarding the production schedule:
- Principal photography began in the summer of 2025.
- Filming was completed in November of the same year.
